On Tuesday, 23 September, prior to the Main  SBNS Meeting, the Neuromodulation Society of UK and Irleand (NSUKI) in conjuction with the SBNS  will be hosting a satellite day to discuss what Neuromodulation can be offered for chronic pain conditions  and who to refer to where surgery is not an option.  The event will be led by Sarah Love-Jones, Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia, North Bristol NHS Trust.   There will be presentations and information on Spinal Cord Stimulation for neuropathic leg and back pain; Dorsal root ganglion stimulation for neuropathic lower limb pain and Multifidus stimulation for chronic mechanical (non-neuropathic) lower back pain.  The comprehensive agenda will also include, spinal injections, peripheral nerve stimulation and referral pathways for all these, pain clinics and how they prepare patients for neuromodulation therapies.     Attendance for this satellite day is FREE, but pre-registration is required via the registration link for the main meeting.

The Main SBNS Meeting will commence on Wednesday 24 September, with a Lifelong Learning Session on “Theatre Culture and Team Dynamics”. Everyone involved in all aspects of working in this environment would benefit from attending: nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and general theatre staff.  Our Lifelong Learning sessions are a regular feature of our meeting and are a perfect opportunity for delegates at all levels in their career to find out about new advances, techniques, teamworking and add to their continued professional development.

The remainder of the programme will cover all aspects of neurosurgery. We have a great line up of esteemed UK and international speakers. As usual, there will be free paper sessions, eposters, breakfast seminars and much more, all carefully designed to create a unique and enjoyable educational experience.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Abstracts on all neurosurgical topics are welcome from the neurosurgical community, both from the UK and internationally.  We would especially like to receive submissions from our invited guests.  Please click on the Abstract Submission tab to submit.  Lines open 31 March and close on 9 June 2025.   Notification of acceptance will be via email to the presenting author by mid-July 2025.

SOCIAL EVENTS

To complement the academic programme, we have some wonderful social events planned.  On Wednesday 24 September there will be a Welcome Reception on board SS Great Britain.  She was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806–1859), for transatlantic service between Bristol and New York City.  Today she is a famous landmark and museum in Bristol and an ideal choice for a welcome reception and a great opportunity meet up with old friends and colleagues and make some new ones.  You can rest assured the catering has greatly improved since the 1800s!

The Gala dinner on Thursday 25 September will be held in another spectacular venue,  Aerospace Bristol, where our guests will have the unique opportunity to dine under the wings of Concorde, the famous supersonic passenger jet.  The location, coupled with a delicious three course meal, fine wine and good company will make this a night to remember.

Click on the Social Events tab for more details.

Exhibition

An extensive exhibition will be held throughout the meeting with numerous neurosurgical companies exhibiting their latest products and innovations.  Several neuro related charities will also have stands in the exhibition.  Please take time to visit the stands during the meeting.  The SBNS are very grateful for the support of our sponsors.
Social Media

We would appreciate our members and delegates actively promoting this event on social media in the lead up to meeting to encourage attendance and, during the meeting, to show your appreciation of the talks and the event.

The hashtag for this event is:

Meeting App

A Conference App will be available for delegates and speakers to download at the beginning of September.  This will include all you need for the meeting, in the lead up to and, during the meeting itself, whether you are attending in person or virtually.

The SBNS and our local Hosts look forward to welcoming you all to Bristol in September 2025.
SBNS Code of Conduct
In April 2024 the SBNS Launched its Code of Conduct for SBNS Meetings  - The Three Principles of Prevention - ST.O.P

1. STay Professional

Don’t use your status to influence/implicitly coerce the vulnerable or more junior

Do not use conferences/educational events as opportunities to seek sexual gratification

Consider your conduct around/after SBNS events, remembering that you represent our society and its values, for example wearing societal identification in public venues

Consider how it may be interpreted if you are photographed/witnessed when you are on study/professional leave

Remember, alcohol is the most common date rape drug – be safe; don’t misuse it

2. Open Your Eyes

Are you blind to your own inappropriate actions?

Are you ignoring poor behaviour in others?

3. Protect Each Other

“Check in” - If you see inappropriate e.g. creepy/sleazy behaviour, and you feel able to do so, ask the “recipient” if they are OK
“Call it out” - If you see inappropriate e.g. creepy/sleazy behaviour, and you feel able to do so, inform the “perpetrator” they are being
e.g. creepy/sleazy, e.g. if it is a friend of yours or someone you know
