Caribbean Fellowship

The Society of British Neurosurgeons (SBNS) is seeking applications for two neurosurgical training fellowships in Kingston, Jamaica.  

The posts are available to UK or Ireland trainees of at least ST3 level or equivalent, with or without an NTN. The fellowships will be from August – October 2025 and November 2025 – January 2026. Applicants must be members of the SBNS who have been members for at least 2 years and are in good standing. There is no funding for these fellowships, applicants are encouraged to seek alternative funding including where eligible applying for SBNS grants.

SBNS membership

The applicant must be a member of the SBNS and have been continuously for at least 2 years

 

Stage of training

Middle grade, at least in phase 2 (ST3 or above or equivalent)

 

Satisfactory progression

 

Outcome 1 at the most recent ARCP

Logbook showing broad exposure, high levels of activity and a high indicative to assisted ratio

Trainer support

For NTNs only: Support from the deanery and TPD

Strongly supportive reference from an independent trainer

Reasons for going

 

Compelling reasons for travel especially focussed on own training needs.

Providing medical aid is not normally considered to be a good reason.

Initiative

 

Evidence of leadership, initiative and commitment within or outside of Neurosurgical practice

Global Health interest

 

Evidence might include presentations, publications, involvement in international MDTs, work abroad etc
